The yamaha U1H is one of the very popular model among teachers and students in Malaysia. It is also one of the very stable U1 series too ! The u1 series is always the benchmark for exam pianos and it was one of the finest upright piano series available for professional use in studio, on the stage or at home.
Yamaha combines the finest materials with superior craftsmanship to assure quality performance of the U1 are comparable to most of Yamaha grand piano.
As we reviewed before, there are many u1 in the series so the alphabet behind the models are the one that distinguishes the model. There are U1a, U1D, U1E, U1F, U1G, U1H, U1M, U1A in the early days of yamaha.
Among all, U1H is considered the top selling Yamaha in the US and also in Asia market because of its modern design, improved piano action and also the sweet, rich Yamaha sound.

The yamaha U1H is made in Japan around 1980, the dimension is 121(H) x 150(W) x 61(D) cm. Weight: 217kg. The body cabinet uses strong sitka wood and backpost using spruce to ensure durability for many generation of use.
The hammers are the finest quality virgin wool but for u1h it is not double felted like u1M and U1A. Yamaha uses SUZUKI string and it the bass string are wrapped with solid copper. The suzuki string produces rich and crystal clear treble tone with warm and broad bass tone that play harmonically throughout the whole register. The iron frame of u1h is also much newer compare to u1d, u1e as its starting to use v pro casting technology since u1f, u1g. The serial number already switch over to the top right side of the iron frame instead of the middle part.
3. Tonality and Voicing
Due to the age of U1H, the piano has been well seasoned and even its used piano, it retains its crystal clear yamaha sounding. The touch is very responsive with all wood action and the pedal featuring full sustain, soft, and quiet play pedal. All levers are made of non flexing metal to eliminate the squeaks and rattles caused by warpage.

| So the conclusion is, U1H is a very good choice if you have a slightly higher budget. I would recommend the U1H to intermediate and advance pianist.
Advantage : v-pro cast iron frame holds the tune better, affordable, great sounding, 3 pedals, modern design Disadvantage : difficult to find as its kinda rare in malaysia.
